Is this a counterpost, Counterlight? Very nice.

You know you're crazy, right?

LOL

All right, here's what I remember about autumns in New York:

A wet metallic smell in the air and...

soaked shoes and socks.

"You know you're crazy, right?"

You finally noticed.

...and after that long thread over on Madpriest's where he argued that America is fundamentally British, and I argued that Britain is basically American citing the Book of Mormon as evidence.
I blamed the extinction of the mastodon and the passenger pigeon on bland British cooking.

There are certain autumn days, like today, where New York smells like a big wet dog.

When I first moved to NYC, I was struck by all the plastic bags in the trees. "What slobs these New Yawkers are", I thought. "They just chuck their garbage right out of their apartment windows!"

It was only after seeing the wind playing w/ bags as in your picture *, that I realized that the bags did not get into the trees from above.

[And New Yawkers are, I realized, no dirtier than other 'merkans. I mean, New Yawkers ARE other 'merkans!]

* I've never lived in Chicago (though visited a number of times, in various seasons), but it'd be difficult to believe that "The Windy City" really has much on Manhattan, when the wind is whipping down the Hudson. Brrr!

NB to Doug: I consider myself the personal evangelist of "Pop Open Half-Width Threads" on Blogger (See re Priest-Who-Is-Mad). Do you think you could make that change? For lil' ol' Dial-Up me, for whom they are MUCH to be preferred?

JCF,

Pop Up windows it is, then.

I hope this is easier for you and all the other dial-up readers out there.
