The Truly Remarkable Thing About the United States ...

... is that it has had only one civil war.

We haven't had one since 1745-6, so we can claim to have gone without for longer than you! Most civil wars happen where different groups of people are fighting over territory (former Yugoslavia, for instance), and for some reason they haven't been able to make a compromise settlement within a single political unit. Or they occur where one group feels that it has been deprived of civil rights by another, and is sufficiently strong to do something abut it (the Six Counties), or in cases where the legal framework is too weak to control politicians, generals or bandit gangs (Sierra Leone etc). I believe your civil war would fall into the second category, but it's hard to see the others applying. None of them have applied to mainland Britain since the Highland Clearances and General Wade's suppression of the Highlanders.

So, anyone out there want to say "Bring it on!"?

There are times when I think the entire USA is nothing but angry nut jobs from sea to shining sea.
Makes me want to pull up stakes and move to some no-one-ever-hears-about-it neutral country like Finland or Andorra.
